Obama made history in November 5th 2008 for being the first Black president in America. It was a day no one saw coming and no one would ever forget.
If you noticed, the word "black" is written in bold. This is because, after Obama became the President, people started digging into his life to see if he lived the lifestyle stereotyped to be Black. For instance, if he has baby mamas, smoked weed etc. This was a little insulting to the African American community. Certian pictures such as these were all over the internet:
The only thing that they could find about him was smoking weed. Almost every teen can testify that they have tried weed at a certain time of their life. But the media did not stop there, they had to take it to the extreme with this picture below.

They also made it seem that he was checking out a younger female. Society already sees an African American man as being sexually hyperactive, and it almost looked convincing because she has a "big booty". It was a good thing it was caught on video to prove his innocence.
Furthermore, some men in Canada and America are known to have a glass of beer after a hard day of work, or hanging out with their guy friends while watching a game (Its quite a norm right?). When Obama was seen taking beer during some events, I guess some people felt there had to be an alcoholic inside of him hiding. So a picture above came to be. This is quite insulting, in the sense that normally people say that black men are useless (a picture says a thousand words). As you can see, the First Lady is looking angry but well put together, while Obama looks drunk. This picture says a lot of things
Lastly, when Obama was elected President every African American and practically the whole world was rejoicing because they never knew he would win and they were also happy to see what a black man can do for the country. But later on, people started saying that Obama is not fully black, some were even saying that he wasn't black, that instead he was mixed. i am not going to say much, but when a child is born into a family with an African background and Caucasian person, what do they say the child is? (Drum roll..........) The answer is Black.
Please I would like to hear your point of views on this.
Being multiracial, myself, I rejoiced our "mixed" president being elected into office. For me, it was a victory as a country, but also for those of use who toe the line. However, in general conversation, Obama is always spoken of as black.
ReplyDeleteSome of my friends prefer to be called mixed or biracial, some prefer one or the other (typically black or hispanic, since they receive too much segregation to be called "white"); so, for me, what you're called really isn't an issue.
With the case of Obama, on the other hand, we run into hypocrites who like to point out that he had a white mother, yet are so quick to call him out on his "blackness" when anyone says something negative.
He does receive a negative portrayal by some groups simply for being black.
All I really have to say is: good for him. If the only ammo they have against him is his racial identity then he's done better off than many of his predecessors who had actual offenses tied to their names. Granted, he will most certainly continue to receive more flack than any other president we've had for no other reason than the color of his skin.
Go ahead and ask for birth certificates, ask for college transcripts, dig up his complete history of women, drugs, alcohol- what have you.
The fact remains, we have a great president, a great role-model family, and one step ahead of anything we've had before.
